Mom was 45 when I was born

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, June 16, 2010 | 0 comments

I am 20 years old. My mother was 45 and my father 49 when I was born and they did a wonderful job and I couldn't have asked for a better situation. My mom says having a baby when you are older helps you focus more on that baby, and she says it helps keep you young. All her friends were knitting and she was out paddle-boating on a lake with me and going to school field trips! She has tons of energy.

I say GO FOR IT! I loved it that my parents were older, because they are wiser and love me more, but at the same time, I fear I may lose them because of age and am jealous of siblings who got to have more time with my mom and dad.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
