I saw my ob today and, in passing, she said I shouldn't be worried about my age (which actually I wasn't!), because she had a 47 year old lady give birth to twins last week.
I live on an island with a total population of 80,000, so it's not like this lady is one in millions. I don't know if the conception was assisted or not, but it's another small piece of evidence that it does happen.

We had a amazing story today.... Sort of a slap in the face to all the docs who kept poo-pooing this wonderful patient:
46 year old....never been pregnant.....highest FSH [follicle stimulating hormone] : 65!!!!!!!!! (Cycle Day 2, Estrogen [E2]: 102 so the FSH was really much higher)
Several IUIs [Intrauterine insemination] (IVF [In Vitro Fertilization] with own eggs not an option in our clinic if over 42 or FSH over 15...whatever)
DE [donor egg] speech over and over and over. Last cycle...LTZ with boosting. One follie.

bHCG [beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin] : 20,000 !!!!!!! (She didn't do a HPT [home pregnancy test] since she just knew there was no chance. Finally broke down after no period for 4ish weeks.)

I have said this many times but will say it again -- In my community, women are having babies into their late 40's and they do not do DE [donor egg].
No woman, who is having her 11th child and who is living paycheque to paycheque, is going to be doing DE [donor egg], right? Can we agree on this???
You need to be aware that it IS POSSIBLE for women in their late 40's and early 50's to conceive spontaneously. This is a medical fact--if it were really SO bizarre, these women would all get into the Guinness Book of World Records, right?
The truth is that it is not impossible and not only that, it is apparently not all that rare either.

I gave up all treatments because of my chemical pregnancy 1 year earlier on my 45th birthday, and then now at 46, I will turn 47 2 1/2 months after delivery.
I will never know why it happened this way and I am not that different from most of you. I have said this many times too - I was not on any special diet, didn't exercise that much, I drank coffee every day, etc.

I was nursing an almost 90 year old lady last night, and discovered that her 6th and last child was born just 40 years ago last week, when she was 2 months short of her 50th birthday!!
A natural conception, and it was only when she went into labour that the nurses and doctors were panicking around her (she didn't understand why?) until baby was born and checked and everyone heaved a sigh of relief. She didn't even consider that there would be anything wrong with her baby.
It's amazing how many elderly ladies I have nursed, who have had babies in their late forties and thought nothing about it.
A natural conception, and it was only when she went into labour that the nurses and doctors were panicking around her (she didn't understand why?) until baby was born and checked and everyone heaved a sigh of relief. She didn't even consider that there would be anything wrong with her baby.

My great-aunt was born in December, 1906. She married in 1928. She had 3 healthy daughters in 1936, 1947, and 1951.
So, she would have been 29, 40 and 44 when she had them. Strange for that time (8 years before even having the first baby and then they were several years apart), and there were obviously no fertility drugs.

A Nurse friend of mine knows a woman in this area, who conceived (naturally) at 49 - gave birth at 50 to her seventh child. So it is possible.

I know it is possible to conceive naturally over 45 - though I never met anyone who has. My Dad told me that when he was a child (1940's) a neighbour lady had a baby at 50!
My mother-in-law told me that there was a neighbour lady of hers who had a baby at 50 (1960's). She and her daughter had a baby at the same time!
My sister-in-law knows a lady who was in her 50's (she thinks IVF [In Vitro Fertilization]) who had a healthy first child.

A neighbour of my parents in Brazil, ( in the sixties, no DE [donor egg]) delivered a healthy baby boy at the age of 54!
She had already three grown-up daughters and to have a son was the great dream of her husband. A very welcome "oops-baby".

My youngest brother was born 6 months after my oldest nephew, Mom was 45.

I know that St. Frances Cabrini was a late-life child; her mother was over 50. Had her momma (who was in very poor health) initially listened to her doctor, a great Saint would not have been allowed to be born.

My joy of my life, my wife, was considered a 'change of life' baby. Her mother was 46 years old when she had my wife, her first child. Doctors had told her previously that she couldn't have a child, and two years after she adopted a troubled youth, she had my wife.
And 3 1/2 years later she had a son.

We have a neighbour whose mother unexpectedly conceived at 52, if I remember her age correctly. Mother and baby were fine.
He's now grown and married and a great help in her old age.

Also, one of my good friends had her son at age 44. She thought she was menopausal but surprise, her miracle baby came.
